what is hygge?

Hygge, pronounced "Hue-gah," is a danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment as cozy, charming or special, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary. this term Emphasizes warmth, kinship, and an appreciation for the little things. considered a vital part of danish culture, hygge is a concept that has contributed to the nation's consistently high happiness ratings. Now Americans are turning to hygge as a way to find happiness from within.

things that make you feel extra hygge!

  • curling up with a good book

  • making hot stew on a cold winter night

  • sipping cocoa by the fire

  • playing a board game with your entire family

  • baking holiday cookies for the neighbors

  • taking the dog on a long walk through the woods

  • sharing a pint with an old friend

  • eating dinner by candle light

  • binge watching a show in pajamas

  • hosting an arts and crafts night

  • attending a paint and sip

  • window shopping

  • decorating a christmas tree

so how does this apply to home design?

it is my belief that by creating spaces that are simple, clean, and functional, you invite the feeling of hygge right into your home. it’s about creating a space that draws people in to rest, reconnect, and feel at peace from the outside world.
